my remixes album taster coming soon....

Wow, it's been a busy few weeks as always. I've been chipping away at a bunch of remixes for the last few months and i'm nearly finished. i'll be uploading a little taster of said remix album which i decided to call 'Remixes From The Edge' in the next few days, maybe the w'end if time runs away from me....

i called this little project 'Remixes From The Edge' for 3 reasons...

1/ My next album is gonna be called 'Postcards From The Edge'
2/ People always associate New Zealand with being on the other side of the world, the edge of the world.
3/ This collection of music is mainly compiled of tracks i've been working on since leaving London last year, and people always send postcards whilst they're away! Mine are musical postcards!

Being in a new place/space has meant i've had more time to work on music and develop my music, some of which will be showcased in the 'Remixes from the Edge' compilation, the rest you'll have to wait til the new album in 2010...

Bon voyage

new Hudson Mohawke album 'Butter'

i was just listening to the new album from Hud mo, titled 'Butter'. Lots of people touting this as the best thing since sliced bread. Taking the media hyperbole into account the dude has some serious skills. I worry that with all the media frenzy with something like this the album won't live up to the expectations people have given it.

The album is expertly crafted, sounds crisp and well produced. No doubt some great tunes on here, and i hope it does well. These days albums come and go so quickly, people buy an album, listen to it for a month and never listen to it again. This album does have longevity thank god and some depth to it.

My only gripe is that some of my favourite tracks are really short! I always hated it when people did this, like madlib doing those cd's and all the beats were too short for my liking.

But thats my personal taste, i highly encourage you go buy the album and make your own mind up, support the artists putting that work in, Hud Mo certainly has and i say fair play bro, good music and good luck.

sending over music for the radio and stuff...

Big thanks to everyone sending me music recently..

i'll do my best to play as much as i can, big thanks to Svetlana Industries for sending some dope beats, go check them out on myspace. Just listening to a Teebs and Jackhigh joint which is crazy nice. Big thanks to OM Unit for a copy of the new EP, again check the myspace for all the details, one track in paticular is off the chain!

Professor Ojo big up sent me a couple of joints, one called delusion deluxe is heat, defo some play on the show. And i really liked what i heard from 86 position, but i'm struggling to find a place for it in the show. Great music no doubt about it but doesn't really work in the context of the show, big up to those guys still.

keep sending the good stuff over, i can never have enough good music to play for the show..

get in touch or send to my dropbox which is linked on this page...

remixes album with my new website....

so...

as i mentioned earlier i'm finally doing my website! The address will be:

www.musicbyghost.com

ok hold that thought and don't click the url, there's nothing to see yet! It wont be anything fancy at the new website, more a place to check everything music related to me, Ghost, old and new. Discography, artwork, news etc etc

i've managed to rack up 10 official Ghost releases of my own, along with a whole catalogue of production credits and remixes. So to mark the release of said website www.musicbyghost.com
i thought what better way to launch the site than to offer a remix pack to all of you.

Remixes will be mostly newer projects, post 2007 til now. I'm just finishing a couple of new remixes but so far the line up is looking pretty HOT. Some of these have been commissioned other not, i won't be charging for these, they'll all be free!! Anyway expect remixes of this lot:
Dabrye feat Doom
The Heavy
Coldcut (not the version i uploaded previously)
AT Jazz
Photek
Kashmere
Tom Middleton
David Dallas

and a few other's i'm working on right now. it's a mixed bag of music, covering hip hop, dubstep, funk,  drum and bass and general electronic beats..

i'm hoping this will all be ready for launch the 22nd Nov cause thats my birthday!

more news to come but for now enuff said..

Proper Website and some remixes coming in November..

As it says in the title i'll finally be opening my own website in November. The 22nd Nov will be the official opening ceremony, thats my birthday! My plan is to have a little remix package i can offer for exclusive digital download, available through my new website via my bandcamp page. That's the only place you'll be able to download the tracks. I just wanted to do a little something special for all the great fans who support what i do...

I'm currently working on a new album, although i have no idea what direction i'm heading just yet i'm getting there. So far i've made some dubstep, hip hop, 'wonky'(i still hate the term), and general electronic beats stuff, stay tuned for more info..

Also in good news my recent album 'Freedom of Thought' should be available in New Zealand in the coming months. I've been trying to get this album distributed out here as thats where i'm living right now. Thanks to Border's and Delicious music who've been helping..

right time to get back to the music, im just creating a little something right now!

HOLLA

for now i'll leave you with this, it's a link to a bangin' tune by Mike Slott on xlr8r website, the tune came out last year but is featured on the new mary ann hobbs compilation..

Music for the radio....

bono estente,

If your reading this for the first time i'll keep this real simple. i do a radio show on RDU 98.5 fm in Christchurch, New Zealand. I play all sorts of electronic music, hip hop and it's related forms. not only do i have my own show which is the friday drive show 16.00-19.00 every friday, i help out a little putting music forward to add to the RDU playlist.

if your're from NZ you'll know this already but for everyone else the RDU playlist is not your run of the mill commercial radio shambles, they support independant music like no other station i can think of. You won't find many major label music being played, unless it's the shizzle.

In a nutshell if you're releasing music and have good quality mp3's at least 320bit get in contact for possible playlist feature's. If you've just got an exclusive track/remix still get in touch, if i like it i'll play it even if we don's add it to the playlist. It's worth having a press release handy to send also. just so we can add the artists details to the database, which i work on every week.

enough said i think, i usually record portions of my show so people get the idea, recently i've had lots of interviews to host so i've not uploaded a show for a few weeks, browse the radio shows section here to check some out.

send me a message for more info!!!

adios

DIZZ 1 show Christchurch 30th Oct 2009...

This should be a great gig! DIZZ 1 has got beats! this will be a night of foward thinking Hip Hop, Dubstep and Future beats.. I'm paticularly excited about this cause i was wanting to get involved in a night showcasing this style of music for the last few months. Time and music just got the better of me.

Anyway people should come out and support, this is the freshest music coming out right now and needs to be heard in Christchurch and the whole of NZ. If people represent the chances of more nights happening increases and there is some great music/artists that could potentially come over for shows..

i'll be down there spinning some tunes, and i've been putting aside some bangers to play that night. For more info check the facebook page below and remember to listen to my friday drive show on rdu 16.00-19.00 for lots more details..

here's some DIZZ 1...

Decknology and new Foreign Beggars Album..

Been a busy week or 2 party people, but some updates for ya..

First up let me say congrats to Marty J who won the RDU DJ competition Decknology 2009. This is the DJ competition run by the radio station i do my friday drive show. i judged a couple of heats, hosted twice, including the grand final and a great time was had by all. All the DJ's did there thing, respect to Psymon Barnet who put an outstanding set together of multi genre goodness, Kristal brought some Technoey style music, not my genre but he was dope, and Danimal did the business too.

Last years winner DJ Insomniac defended his title again dropping a multi genre set and was unlucky not to retain the title. But that said Marty J i'd seen twice in the competition and smashed it up both times, again he dropped a great selection of DnB, looked so comfortable/excited every time he played he deserved the win.

I dont host anything other than my radio show but maybe you'll see me out there again as i had a lot of fun!

Big up to Foreign Beggars for sending me there new album, it's due out Oct sometime, and it's got some heat on there i can't front. i'll def be supporting through my show. Make sure you get a listen to the new material, highlights are the tracks produced by 2tall feat Kashmere and Jehst, Guilty Simpson's feature. Actually i think this is there best album to date, good work fella's.

here's a quick peek of the track feat Kashmere/jehst produced by DJ 2tall..

Foreign Beggars feat Kashmere/Jehst - No More

Radio show...new and old

Another week another radio show. This is where i do my friday drive show on RDU in Christchurch, New Zealand. The studio is slightly better equipped than the old pirate station's i used to do back in the days!  No crackheads or estate's in sight! I do miss doing pirate radio though, they were some great times.

Itch fm was a LOT of fun, for those that didnt know or were outside of zone 3 in london you might have heard of the legendary pirate station that was itch fm. Props to my homie Disorda for bringing me up on his show and getting me into radio. After covering his Suspect packages UK Hip Hop show i started the Midweek Session. I think it total i did that show for 5 years, i had my good buddy mark 563 join me on the show before he left for Australia.

There was a number of occaisions we'd get totally drunk before/whilst doing the show! It's something i've done a few times since, usually to regret it. Me and Kashmere hosted a show for dieselU Music radio last year, we got totally smashed, well i did. i have a recording of that show which will never leave my studio!

Anyway these days you can find me hosting the friday drive show 16.00-19.00 every friday on RDU 98.5fm www.rdu.org.nz

i try to record the show's and host them here so you can listen back, i treat my Friday drive show in a similar way the old pirate show, lots of fun and great music. Maybe i should get the 'i want 20 missed called to reload the tune' style poppin off again!

Coldcut - Sound Mirrors remix....

Been working my balls off recently getting some new music on the go and remixing. i've remixed a couple of tracks of The Heavy'. see previous posts for details, and now i just finished this remix of Coldcut's Sound Mirror's. the original is a spaced out jazzy cinematic giant of a tune.

i've tried to keep this epic value and add a bunch of new Piano's, Strings, Bass and Drums into the mix, came out pretty good!

hope you like it...

Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators Ghost remix...

Bono Estente,

Another treat from the Ghost remix archives...i did this remix 2 years ago, came out on the Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators - Keep Reachin' Up Re-Mixed CD. This album featured remixes from Mr Scruff, Mike Slott, Simbad amongst other's. The original album wass off the hook, the remix album was equally as dope IMO.

i remixed Soul Investigators Theme, came out a hazy smoked out Hip Hop type joint, i really liked what i did with this and i hope you do too...

High Quality mp3 for ya at 320 bit, i hate shit mp3's!

brand new radio show, taken from last friday..

wassup yo,

here's another edited installment of the friday drive show on www.rdu.org.nz

This show features tracks from Silkie's album City Limits Vol 1, this is a dope album! New stuff from grime producer Maniac and a whole bunch of other great music. Just so you know i edit the show to cut out the majority of the adverts and banter i do just so you can check the music.

Last weeks show saw the first of a new segment on Friday drive, someone comes into the studio and makes me cocktails, nice. This will be happening every other week now, obviously i complained that they move it to another show but they werent having it, oh well. i'll record the next one and leave that segment in!

Bandcamp page now up and running....

So i decided to set up this bandcamp page and see what the dealio was, so please take a moment to head over there and cop some music! i've heard a few people talking about how great it was and it's a pretty good tool for hosting music directly to the public. You can buy WAV's, mp3's in varying formats of quality..

If everything works smooth i hope to have the joint project me, Kashmere and Verb T recorded called Invisible Inc up on there as soon as the artwork is completed. Hopefully we can sell some music and raise enough money to do a physical release ourselves, we'd love to bring that to all our great fans, we've all had a lot of people asking when it will be out, SOON WE HOPE!

its funny the way people compare!

i thought i'd write this as i was reading a few more album reviews recently, all bloody good i might add. A big thanks to all the reviewer's, good or bad. ( i've only seen one bad review and that wasnt so bad!)

Anyway a lot of people have mentioned i sound like DJ Shadow. Which is not a bad thing in my eyes, he makes dope music! And a lot of people said that my album is 'Trip Hop', okay.

But let me break it down, if you listen to DJ Shadow's music, then mine, the only real thing they have in common is that we both make instrumental Hip Hop. i don't think my music sound's anything like him! i think it's just easy for review people to associate me with him cause we both made instrumental Hip Hop.

As for trip hop, did these people ever listen to much trip hop? i did, but none of the records i have in that 'genre' sound anything like my album either.

For the record i make Hip Hop, my own brand of it, call it what you will. The electronic music i've made recently is still Hip Hop to me, that's where i came from, anything i do will always be an extension of Hip Hop.

Forthcoming remix of The Heavy....

In other news i just finished a remix of The Heavy, they're a great soul, rock type group releasing on Counter, Ninja tune. I did 2 version's, originally a dubsteppy type remix, then a more chilled out version. I think they're using the more Hip Hop style for the release, and who know's where the other one might turn up.

Why not check a couple of audio clips....

Not sure when it's releaed but you'll hear here first...

Freedom of Thought get 4/5 in new issue of Hip Hop Connection

whats the conbobulation, (thats Kashmere's word)

the people over at hip hop connection magazine, now available in digital format as a pdf via there website www.hhcdigital.net have been very complimentary about my new album.
They gave it a 4/5 in the album reviews section, thank you to Lucy Van Pelt for the review. Above is a couple of other published reviews from DJ Magazine and echo's magazine.

I haven't always seen eye to eye with some of there reviews about my music, i felt they just thought i was just another producer getting a bunch of emcee's to spit over my beats.

I'm still here doing my thing and it feels like they appreciate what i do a bit more these days, i always respected the mag for being a great read over the years, i hope the new digital format keeps up the good work, it looks dope and is a really good read.

why not go check them out, hopefully they'll get me on more of a feature as it is my 2nd long player and they never did anything for the first album!

Midweek Session Radio on Drivetime RDU 98.5fm www.rdu.org.nz

At last, i've managed to get audio from my weekly thursday radio show. The show is broadcast from 16.00-19.00 on RDU 98.5 or online at www.rdu.org.nz. Now i appreciate that when the show is live in New Zealand it's the middle of the night everywhere else.....!

But don't worry!! Now you can listen to the show no matter which part of the world you're in cause the good people at RDU have set up a computer so i can record all the show's and post them online for everyone to download and check out!

Just so you know this is a drivetime show so it's a mixture of music covering Hip Hop, Dubstep, Drum n Bass, Instrumental beats etc etc. i've also cut out some of the add breaks and me talking shite but there's still a few bits on there, i did the best i could.

That said i get to play a lot of great music covering lots of styles as you can see by the tracklisting below....
