my remixes album taster coming soon....

Wow, it's been a busy few weeks as always. I've been chipping away at a bunch of remixes for the last few months and i'm nearly finished. i'll be uploading a little taster of said remix album which i decided to call 'Remixes From The Edge' in the next few days, maybe the w'end if time runs away from me....

i called this little project 'Remixes From The Edge' for 3 reasons...

1/ My next album is gonna be called 'Postcards From The Edge'
2/ People always associate New Zealand with being on the other side of the world, the edge of the world.
3/ This collection of music is mainly compiled of tracks i've been working on since leaving London last year, and people always send postcards whilst they're away! Mine are musical postcards!

Being in a new place/space has meant i've had more time to work on music and develop my music, some of which will be showcased in the 'Remixes from the Edge' compilation, the rest you'll have to wait til the new album in 2010...

Bon voyage

new Hudson Mohawke album 'Butter'

i was just listening to the new album from Hud mo, titled 'Butter'. Lots of people touting this as the best thing since sliced bread. Taking the media hyperbole into account the dude has some serious skills. I worry that with all the media frenzy with something like this the album won't live up to the expectations people have given it.

The album is expertly crafted, sounds crisp and well produced. No doubt some great tunes on here, and i hope it does well. These days albums come and go so quickly, people buy an album, listen to it for a month and never listen to it again. This album does have longevity thank god and some depth to it.

My only gripe is that some of my favourite tracks are really short! I always hated it when people did this, like madlib doing those cd's and all the beats were too short for my liking.

But thats my personal taste, i highly encourage you go buy the album and make your own mind up, support the artists putting that work in, Hud Mo certainly has and i say fair play bro, good music and good luck.

remixes album with my new website....

so...

as i mentioned earlier i'm finally doing my website! The address will be:

www.musicbyghost.com

ok hold that thought and don't click the url, there's nothing to see yet! It wont be anything fancy at the new website, more a place to check everything music related to me, Ghost, old and new. Discography, artwork, news etc etc

i've managed to rack up 10 official Ghost releases of my own, along with a whole catalogue of production credits and remixes. So to mark the release of said website www.musicbyghost.com
i thought what better way to launch the site than to offer a remix pack to all of you.

Remixes will be mostly newer projects, post 2007 til now. I'm just finishing a couple of new remixes but so far the line up is looking pretty HOT. Some of these have been commissioned other not, i won't be charging for these, they'll all be free!! Anyway expect remixes of this lot:
Dabrye feat Doom
The Heavy
Coldcut (not the version i uploaded previously)
AT Jazz
Photek
Kashmere
Tom Middleton
David Dallas

and a few other's i'm working on right now. it's a mixed bag of music, covering hip hop, dubstep, funk,  drum and bass and general electronic beats..

i'm hoping this will all be ready for launch the 22nd Nov cause thats my birthday!

more news to come but for now enuff said..

Proper Website and some remixes coming in November..

As it says in the title i'll finally be opening my own website in November. The 22nd Nov will be the official opening ceremony, thats my birthday! My plan is to have a little remix package i can offer for exclusive digital download, available through my new website via my bandcamp page. That's the only place you'll be able to download the tracks. I just wanted to do a little something special for all the great fans who support what i do...

I'm currently working on a new album, although i have no idea what direction i'm heading just yet i'm getting there. So far i've made some dubstep, hip hop, 'wonky'(i still hate the term), and general electronic beats stuff, stay tuned for more info..

Also in good news my recent album 'Freedom of Thought' should be available in New Zealand in the coming months. I've been trying to get this album distributed out here as thats where i'm living right now. Thanks to Border's and Delicious music who've been helping..

right time to get back to the music, im just creating a little something right now!

HOLLA

for now i'll leave you with this, it's a link to a bangin' tune by Mike Slott on xlr8r website, the tune came out last year but is featured on the new mary ann hobbs compilation..

Decknology and new Foreign Beggars Album..

Been a busy week or 2 party people, but some updates for ya..

First up let me say congrats to Marty J who won the RDU DJ competition Decknology 2009. This is the DJ competition run by the radio station i do my friday drive show. i judged a couple of heats, hosted twice, including the grand final and a great time was had by all. All the DJ's did there thing, respect to Psymon Barnet who put an outstanding set together of multi genre goodness, Kristal brought some Technoey style music, not my genre but he was dope, and Danimal did the business too.

Last years winner DJ Insomniac defended his title again dropping a multi genre set and was unlucky not to retain the title. But that said Marty J i'd seen twice in the competition and smashed it up both times, again he dropped a great selection of DnB, looked so comfortable/excited every time he played he deserved the win.

I dont host anything other than my radio show but maybe you'll see me out there again as i had a lot of fun!

Big up to Foreign Beggars for sending me there new album, it's due out Oct sometime, and it's got some heat on there i can't front. i'll def be supporting through my show. Make sure you get a listen to the new material, highlights are the tracks produced by 2tall feat Kashmere and Jehst, Guilty Simpson's feature. Actually i think this is there best album to date, good work fella's.

here's a quick peek of the track feat Kashmere/jehst produced by DJ 2tall..

its funny the way people compare!

i thought i'd write this as i was reading a few more album reviews recently, all bloody good i might add. A big thanks to all the reviewer's, good or bad. ( i've only seen one bad review and that wasnt so bad!)

Anyway a lot of people have mentioned i sound like DJ Shadow. Which is not a bad thing in my eyes, he makes dope music! And a lot of people said that my album is 'Trip Hop', okay.

But let me break it down, if you listen to DJ Shadow's music, then mine, the only real thing they have in common is that we both make instrumental Hip Hop. i don't think my music sound's anything like him! i think it's just easy for review people to associate me with him cause we both made instrumental Hip Hop.

As for trip hop, did these people ever listen to much trip hop? i did, but none of the records i have in that 'genre' sound anything like my album either.

For the record i make Hip Hop, my own brand of it, call it what you will. The electronic music i've made recently is still Hip Hop to me, that's where i came from, anything i do will always be an extension of Hip Hop.

Freedom of Thought get 4/5 in new issue of Hip Hop Connection

whats the conbobulation, (thats Kashmere's word)

the people over at hip hop connection magazine, now available in digital format as a pdf via there website www.hhcdigital.net have been very complimentary about my new album.
They gave it a 4/5 in the album reviews section, thank you to Lucy Van Pelt for the review. Above is a couple of other published reviews from DJ Magazine and echo's magazine.

I haven't always seen eye to eye with some of there reviews about my music, i felt they just thought i was just another producer getting a bunch of emcee's to spit over my beats.

I'm still here doing my thing and it feels like they appreciate what i do a bit more these days, i always respected the mag for being a great read over the years, i hope the new digital format keeps up the good work, it looks dope and is a really good read.

why not go check them out, hopefully they'll get me on more of a feature as it is my 2nd long player and they never did anything for the first album!
